UltraDev 101

Counting Records

Ok, another cool feature about UltraDev is it’s easy to count records. What this means, is that you can display to the user that they are viewing records 5 to 10 of 14, and along those lines.

Above your table, place a holder where you will insert the count fields. I always do something like this:

Viewing records _ - _ of _

Now open Window > Data Bindings and scroll down inside the window until you see three fields like this:
[first record index], [last record index], and [total records]

Select the first underscore in "Viewing records _" and go to [first record index] and press Insert. It should look like this:

Displaying records {rsGetRecords_first} - _ of _

Now do the same thing but select the second underscore and go to [last record index] and press Insert. Now it should look like this:

Displaying records {rsGetRecords_first} - {rsGetRecords_last} of _

Finally select the last underscore and go to [total records] and press Insert. You now have the final code that looks like this:

Displaying records {rsGetRecords_first} - {rsGetRecords_last} of {rsGetRecords_total}

This is so easy to do! If you go test your page now, it will actually display which records you are viewing out of how many total. Here is a screenshot of our exercise up to this point.
