UltraDev 101

Hiding Links

UltraDev has the ability to hide areas. Now we are going to apply this to the "Previous 5 Records | Next 5 Records" area. This is a really neat trick. If the user is viewing the first record, then it won’t display the Previous Records link because there isn’t one! And vice versa for the Next Records if they are viewing the last record in the database.

Open up Window > Server Behaviors. Select ALL of "Previous 5 Records" on the page and from the + (plus) sign select Hide Region. It will then pop up a new dialog box where you can specify WHEN it should hide itself.

Since we are working with the "Previous 5 Records" link, we don’t want the user to see this if they are viewing the first record in the database. So we’ll select If First Record in the Hide Region dialog window and press OK. You can see the examples in the pictures below.

Now if you look at your "Previous 5 Records" link, it will be highlighted with a black line with Hide written above it like this:

Continue to follow the same steps for the "Next 5 Records" link, except this time choose If Last Record from the menu.

Let’s test! Here are the three screenshots below of what you should have. Notice how the first capture doesn’t have a Previous link because they are already viewing the first record and can’t go up any further than 1. And the same thing for the last capture… it isn’t showing the Next link because they are viewing the last record in the database.
